RESIDENCY: FIRE ISLAND NATIONAL SEASHORE
In the spring of 2017 I was fortunate enough to have participated in a 2 week artist residency at Fire Island National Seashore. Part of the National Park Service, this barrier island is home a variety of ecosystems: beach, dune, marsh, bay, and even the rare maritime forest. It is ridiculously beautiful. There I enjoyed 2 weeks of solitude and art making. I took long walks to visit towns and wildlife areas and the various places where water meets land. Art wise there were many false starts and abandoned drawings and paintings, but amidst this searching (and the equally important thinking and writing and reading and looking that was done) I ended up with the following documentation of this wonderful gift of time.
